National Independent Power Producer

Zero capex. 10% below your current tariff.

As a national independent power producer and EPC, we fund, build, own and operate state-of-the-art solar and battery storage on your site. You buy the power at a contracted rate, with no plant to run or maintain.

The PPA model

Buy your power at a contracted rate, with no plant to fund, run or maintain

A power purchase agreement (PPA) is a contract between Northlands Energy and your business for the purchase and sale of electricity, typically over 10 to 25 years. There is no capital outlay, and fixed pricing is available.

  • R0 upfront. We carry the full capital cost of the plant.
  • We own and maintain it. Maintenance and repairs stay with us.
  • Contracted rates, capped escalation.
  • Buyout options. Take ownership of the system later if you choose.

Turn roof space into income

Host a Northlands plant on roof space you are not using, and earn rental from it. We handle the metering, billing and maintenance.

  • Earn revenue from roof space rental
  • Combine with smart prepaid metering: meter every tenant, reconcile against the bulk supply and see where energy goes missing
PPA questions

What people ask before they sign

Who owns the equipment in a PPA?

We do. Your business doesn’t own the system, but you reap the full benefits of the electricity it generates. Northlands Energy buys, owns and maintains the solar panels, batteries and inverters. Your business pays only for the electricity it uses.

What are the key features of a PPA?

The agreement spells out:

  • The electricity to be generated and the plant’s technical details
  • The term, typically 10 to 25 years
  • The pricing structure: fixed, variable or a mix of both
  • Payment terms
  • Performance commitments
  • Grid connection and who is responsible for what
  • Force majeure, termination and dispute resolution
How does a PPA compare with financing?

Finance puts the system on your balance sheet, with repayments to a provider and the upkeep with you. A PPA is R0 upfront. You pay only for the electricity you use, at a contracted rate, and maintenance and repairs stay with us.

Can a PPA include battery storage?

Yes. We size solar, storage and generator integration to how your site consumes power. Storage options are high-voltage lithium-ion: IES batteries with ATESS power conversion, or an integrated Sigenergy system.

Can I buy the system later?

Yes. PPAs and structured leases carry a buyout option, so you can take ownership of the system later if you choose.
